NORDIC PRO SOLUTIONS: NEW NORDIC COOPERATION MAKES PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY EASIER

From June 2025, a new Nordic collaboration will come into effect. It's called Nordic PRO Solutions, and the goal is to make it easier for Nordic companies operating across borders to manage producer responsibility for electronics, batteries, and packaging in the Nordic region.
Dato: 11. juni 2025

Behind the collaboration are five producer responsibility organisations (PRO); Retur in Denmark, NORSIRK in Norway, El-Kretsen and TMR in Sweden and Sumi in Finland.

When it comes to electronics, batteries, and packaging, the Nordic region often functions as a single market, and sustainability managers in larger companies are frequently responsible for reporting and compliance with legislation across the region.

This is precisely the process that Nordic PRO Solutions aims to simplify.

Instead of having to deal with – in the worst case – up to 12 different producer responsibility organizations in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, Nordic PRO Solutions will be the solution in all four countries.

By joining forces in Nordic PRO Solutions, the five collective schemes can:

  • Ensure a strong local presence in four Nordic countries,

  • Provide access to expert advice and updates on current and upcoming EU regulations in one place,

  • Offer reporting and data across the companies’ Nordic subsidiaries,

  • Offer a single point of contact for your company across the entire Nordic region.

With Nordic PRO Solutions, we are taking an important step toward simplifying producer responsibility across the Nordic region. Through this Nordic partnership, we ensure that companies receive a more manageable solution – with access to high-level professional expertise. This strengthens the business sector’s ability to navigate an increasingly complex set of regulations,” says Morten Harboe-Jepsen, CEO of Retur.

In Denmark, it is Retur that manages the Nordic partnership.

ABOUT THE PROS BEHIND NORDIC PRO SOLUTIONS:

Retur is Denmark’s largest family of producer responsibility organizations (PROs), and together we help companies in Denmark fulfill their producer responsibility obligations.

Retur currently consists of five PROs: Elretur, Emballageretur, Batteriretur, Fiskeriretur, and Tekstilretur, collectively managing producer responsibility for electronics, packaging, batteries, fishing equipment, and textiles.

As a member of Retur, companies receive a consolidated and efficient solution for handling producer responsibility – all in one place with access to expertise, knowledge, and an international network.

Retur operates on a non-profit basis and works to increase reuse and recycling so that valuable resources are lifted out of the waste stream and back into the circular economy.

El-Kretsen runs a nationwide, sustainable system for the collection and recycling of electronic waste and batteries – in cooperation with all Swedish municipalities – ensuring full environmental responsibility.

As part of its mission, El-Kretsen helps producers fulfill their obligations through guidance, reporting, information, and compliance support.

From 2025, producers will also be able to report their packaging via El-Kretsen.

NORSIRK has nearly 3,000 producer responsibility customers, whom we assist with advice and effective solutions within the circular economy.

We have been growing for over 20 years and are the only producer responsibility organization in Norway with more than 10 schemes gathered under one system and one administration.

NORSIRK offers advice, webinars, and courses to customers and other interested parties and has specialized departments for batteries, packaging, electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), agricultural plastics, and consultancy services.

TMR is a producer responsibility organization (PRO) that helps companies fulfill their obligations within packaging. Since 2005, TMR has worked to simplify and streamline producer responsibility.

All companies placing packaging on the Swedish market are covered by regulations that span the entire lifecycle of packaging – from design to recycling. TMR acts as a link between companies, authorities, and recycling actors and offers solutions tailored to the customer’s needs and operations. Customers gain access to digital tools, industry-specific guidance, and personal advice – all focused on easing daily legal compliance.

With the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), stricter requirements are imposed on packaging materials, labeling, reuse, and recyclability. TMR closely follows developments and provides customers with concrete support to understand and comply with the new rules – both in Sweden and across the Nordic region.

Sumi Oy is Finland’s fastest-growing producer responsibility organization, established in 2023 with roots going back over 30 years as the former Suomen Uusiomuovi Oy – the producer responsibility organization for plastic packaging.

Today, Sumi Oy manages full producer responsibility for all packaging materials and serves 1,800 producers. The group includes subsidiaries such as Sumi Sorting Oy and Finnish Agriculture Plastics Recycling Oy, which drive innovation in sorting infrastructure, packaging recycling, and industrial chemical recycling of plastic packaging.

Sumi is known for transparency, competitive pricing, and customer-focused service, creating added value through regulatory advice, reporting support, and partnerships within the circular economy. We are committed to helping companies meet both current and future EU requirements, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
