Elretur, a non-profit organisation that ensures responsible and cost-effective collection and treatment of the electronic and battery waste delivered to Denmark’s recycling centres, has bought more than 400 containers. The containers have been purchased from the Funen-based company Nipa in Tommerup, which produces lighting masts and containers. The first containers have already been delivered, and the final containers will be delivered before 1 March 2024.
“We have examined the market thoroughly, and when all factors are included – transport costs, delivery time and, not least, quality – this is a competitive price. For Elretur, this is a strategic investment that improves our infrastructure. We are upgrading our containers, and in future we will be less dependent on renting containers,” says Morten Harboe-Jepsen, CEO of Elretur.
The order amounts to a substantial double-digit million figure, and for Nipa it is the company’s largest order ever.
“It is historic. Until now, our largest order has been for 100 containers, so this is by far our largest order ever. I think it is fantastic that such a large order can be placed with a small family-owned company in Tommerup. I am proud and honoured that Elretur has entrusted us with this task and has not bought the containers abroad,” says Jesper Skytte, CEO of Nipa.
The order consists of 400 36 m3 containers measuring 6.5 m x 2.55 m x 2.35 m (length x width x height), built for use at recycling centres.

Elretur is Denmark’s largest Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO), representing many different industries and types of businesses. We handle Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries on behalf of more than 950 members.
Elretur is a non-profit organisation that ensures responsible and cost-effective collection and treatment of the electronic and battery waste delivered to Denmark’s recycling centres. Elretur recycles 84% of the products collected, which is above the EU average of 80%. The goal is now to take the next step and increase product reuse.
NIPA ApS is a 100% Danish family-owned machine factory located in Tommerup on Funen, where the company was founded in 1986. Today, the company employs more than 25 people in production.
The company’s two main products are containers and lighting masts. Nipa produces containers and sorting plants in all shapes and sizes for the recycling sector. The company also produces and markets a wide range of lighting masts with a complete range of accessories, including mast arms, crossbars and mast foundations. NIPA also produces a number of special masts to order, such as town gate masts, decorative masts and traffic signal masts.
