Sections are Retur’s member forums. This is where companies with shared product areas or industry affiliations meet to discuss the development of the schemes, follow the finances and help set the environmental fees that apply for the coming year.
A section brings together companies with the same types of products or industry affiliation within one of Retur’s Producer Responsibility Organisations. Each section is organised with a section leadership elected by and among the member companies.
The role of the sections is described in Retur’s articles of association. In short, they help manage the waste obligation within their area and develop models for environmental fees, which are submitted to the board for approval.
In practice, the sections typically meet twice a year:
Spring: Review of the accounts from the previous year and status on section work.
Autumn: Setting of environmental fees for the coming year. Prices are set for each individual section.
As an active participant in section work, you can help discuss the development of the scheme and qualify the models for environmental fees.
Through section work, you can influence the environmental fees that apply to your product category or industry area. The sections’ recommendations are processed in accordance with Retur’s articles of association and approved by the board.
Section meetings provide access to professional dialogue, new knowledge about legislation and best practice, as well as networking with companies working with the same types of products, materials and waste flows.
Retur is a non-profit, member-owned organisation. As a member, you can help shape the shared solutions that make Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) efficient, responsible and manageable in practice.
Elretur’s sections follow the official product categories for electrical and electronic equipment. This means that section work is based on the waste flows, collection obligations and costs associated with each category.
Emballageretur’s sections are divided by industry because packaging types, quantities and waste flows vary across sectors.
Batteriretur’s sections follow the five categories in the Battery Regulation and reflect the different types of batteries companies may place on the market.

If your company is already a member of Retur, you can take part in section work within the scheme or schemes you are registered with.
Here, you gain insight into the development of the scheme and have the opportunity to contribute to work on environmental fees, finances and shared solutions.
You choose one primary section with voting rights — typically the section where your company has the largest payment obligation. You can also take part in other relevant sections without voting rights.
