Data and reporting for batteries

If your company has EPR for batteries, you must be able to continuously report battery category, chemistry, weight and quantities for the batteries you make available on the Danish market - including when the battery is built into a product.

Reporting allocates both responsibility and costs

When you report battery data, it is not only about meeting an authority requirement. Reporting also forms the basis for how the costs of collection and treatment are allocated between producers and between the Producer Responsibility Organisations.

Your data must therefore be calculated correctly and be documentable. As a member, you must report data to Batteriretur no later than 20 April.

Batteriretur then reports to Danish Producer Responsibility before the official deadline of 30 June.

What do you need to report?

Battery category and chemistry

You must determine which category the battery belongs to - portable, LMT, industrial, SLI or EV battery - and which battery chemistry applies.

Quantity in kilograms

Batteries are reported in kilograms. The weight is calculated as the battery weight including electrolyte, but excluding packaging and the product's other components.

Quantities placed on the market

You must report the batteries you have placed on the Danish market during the relevant period. Batteries that are exported again before being sold to end users in Denmark should generally not be included.

When do you need to report?

Reporting takes place annually. The official deadline at Danish Producer Responsibility is 30 June. As a member of Batteriretur, you must report your data to us no later than 20 April, so that we can report on your behalf in time.

From 2026, battery quantities must be reported according to the new battery categories and with information on battery chemistry. This makes it especially important to get your data structure in place in good time.

Batteries in products must also be reported

If you place batteries on the market as part of a product, the battery must still be reported separately. This also applies if the battery is not sold separately.

The battery weight must be calculated on its own - without the product's other parts. The information can often be found in technical specifications, bills of materials or product data sheets from the supplier. If it is not immediately available, it is your responsibility to obtain it.

Batteriretur helps you structure battery data

For many companies, the biggest challenge is not understanding that reporting is required - but getting the data to work in practice.

Batteriretur can help you structure the data basis, understand the relevant categories and make reporting more manageable, especially if you have many item numbers, multiple suppliers or batteries built into products.

You remain responsible for ensuring that data is correct and can be documented.

Who does what in EPR?

Extended Producer Responsibility involves your company, the authorities and the Producer Responsibility Organisation. Your company has the legal responsibility, the authorities administer the rules and register, and Retur's PROs handle the practical obligations on behalf of members.
